Salvia officinalis MT - The plant acts as tonic, astringent, aromatic; its infusion is used as a lotion for ulcers and to heal raw abrasions of the skin and to dry up the breast milk for weaning. Its leaves make excellent gargle for relaxed throat and tonsils and for ulceration of mouth and throat. It controls the excessive sweating when circulation is enfeebled; of less use in phthisis with sweat and suffocating tickling cough. It exerts a tonic influence on the skin. Research on animals reports antipyretic action. Thujone has antiseptic and oestrogenic action, reduces breast milk production. Other constituents are anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant and antimicrobial. As per reports it is used as a hair lotion, particularly good for dark hair, strengthening the hair and deepening the natural colour. Reference 1. W.
