Viscum album

Viscum album is a drug often used in mother tincture hypertension. Materia medica also recommends it for diplopia, deafness from cold, persistent vertigo, asthmatic conditions, sciatica, etc, in potencies leading to a number of Viscum album 30 uses.. A clinical verification study had been conducted by CCRH to validate the present symptoms and to find out new symptoms. As expected this study has found many new symptoms.

Viscum album is called as Mistletoe in English, Mistel in German, Guide chene in French, Ban or Banda in Hindi. Mother tincture of this drug is prepared from fresh leaves and berries. In the present study, the drug was clinically verified in 6C and 30C. Symptoms given in the literature have been sufficiently verified on a good number of patients. In addition to the matching of symptoms with the homoeopathic literature, it is also found and validated some new symptoms, which are superscripted as N (New symptom). Here are some conditions for which Visum Album can be used:

Vertigo

Vertigo; with anxiety^N, while standing^N better sitting^N, with dullness and giddiness.  Vertigo with darkness in front of eyes worse morning, evening on standing worse movement better rest.^N

Head

Headache; temporal region; throbbing.  Frontal headache with heaviness^N.  Headache with low blood pressure.  Numbness feeling in head with darkness before eyes^N.  Headache better bending forward^N.  Pain in forehead with vertigo.

Eyes

Blurring of vision.  Burning in eyes with irritation and restlessness. ^N

Ear

Otorrhoea; sticky, thin, offensive and whitish discharge. ^N

Abdomen

Flatulence with heaviness in abdomen.^N

Rectum

Stool; constipated, irregular^N and scanty^N.

Urinary

Frequent urination.

Female

Pain in lower abdomen as if menses coming worse during menses.  Menses early, profuse, bright red with dots.^N  Menopausal; climacteric complaints.  Leucorrhoea; thin white worse movement^N with vertigo^N.

Respiratory

Dyspnoea; worse lying on left side, ascending stairs^N, exertion^N and running^N.  Spasmodic cough (with vomiting^N).

Back

Pain in back worse on movement better by rest^N worse lying down.  Backache in lumbo-sacral region worse walking.  Lumbago with stiffness.  Pain in cervical region with stiffness worse movement; radiating to both arms^N with numbness of fingers, worse exertion better rest^N.  Periodical pain from sacrum to pelvis worse in bed, with pain in the thighs & upper extremities.  Lumbago; right sided worse movement better pressure^N.  Pain in neck & dorsal region.

Chest

Violent palpitation, low blood pressure with weak pulse, chest pain, high blood pressure.  Palpitation during coitus.  Tickling sensation in cardiac region.  Palpitation with anxiety worse motion better rest.^N

Extremities

Oedema; legs & fingers.  Tearing pain in joints.  Pain in leg with tiredness worse walking.^N  Rheumatic pains in joints worse at night, movement, better pressure^N.  Pain knee joints with swelling^N and stiffness^N worse winters, movement, ascending stairs^N.  Tearing shooting pain in both the thigh & legs and upper extremities.  Pain in both extremities better rest.^N  Twitching pain in both hands and legs.  Sciatic pain; right side^N worse walking, left side^N worse winter, movement.  Pain in right shoulder joint worse first movement^N better hot formulation^N.  Shoulder pain worse raise arms, night.  Tearing pain in both shoulder joints worse raising hand and movement, with difficulty to take hand back^N.  Pain in thigh goes down to back of heel.  Tearing pain in legs worse cold & movement.  Left leg worse cold damp weather. Numbness in right leg worse sitting, morning on waking.^N  Pain in small joints with swelling of fingers worse rainy season, morning.^N  Pain in left hand with stiffness.^N  Pain alternate in knee joints, Ankle joints, Shoulder joints, & elbow joints.  Cramps in calf muscles.^N  Rheumatism in obese persons with excessive perspiration.^N

Skin

Reddish eruptions with itching.^N

Generalities

Profound prostration.  Hypertension with slow weak pulse.  Weakness with no inclination to do work & tiredness.  Epileptic fits, convulsions.  Lassitude.  Low blood pressure.
