Alpha™- Liv Drops

Alpha – Liv Drops Due to high demand from the market, for a formulation in drops for the liver, apart from the syrup already available in the market, Schwabe India developed this product. Introduction The liver plays a key role in metabolism. It has anabolic and catabolic, exocrine and endocrine functions. The liver is a blood reservoir, filter and store of different substances (e.g. glycogen, vitamins). It is the site of serum protein (e.g. albumin, prothrombin, fibrinogen) and enzyme synthesis. Metabolic processes (e.g. bilirubin, hormone, carbohydrate and lipid turnover) and the removal of toxic products are important liver functions. 1 Hepatotoxins (e.g. alcohol, tetracycline, acetaminophen, fungal toxins, and anabolic steroids) can cause specific damage to liver cells. Toxic hepatitis may be clinically silent or severe enough to lead to the rapid development of hepatic failure. Clinical features include hepatomegaly, enzyme abnormalities, fever, abdominal pain, anorexia, nausea, vomiting and weight loss. In patients with underlying cirrhosis, manifestations of portal hypertension may predominate. Aversion to fatty food, abdominal discomfort, nausea and vomiting after meals may be symptoms of 2 cholelithiasis. Jaundice results from accumulation of bilirubin. It has non-hepatic as well as hepatic causes. Hyperbilirubinaemia may be due to abnormalities in the 3 formation, transport, metabolism or excretion of bilirubin. TM Alpha -Liv Drops aids recovery and normalisation of liver functions. Severe liver disease needs specialised treatment. Indications: Slow liver functions, fatty liver, and for supportive treatment of hepatocellular jaundice and toxic liver damage.

India is now becoming a homoeopathy hub. It leads the world with highest number of homoeopaths around 200 homoeopathic colleges with university level education, streamlined quality control drugs, research, and clinical infrastructure in the field of homoeopathy. Homoeopathy visitors to India are increasing. Recently on the eve of World Homoeopathy Day, there were several international homoeopaths visiting India to participate various events. Being the Indian arm of internationally acclaimed Schwabe Group, Schwabe India attracted many. There were around 30 such international visitors to Schwabe India, who were astonished to see the World-Class GMP manufacturing facility with modern infrastructure in India as well.  Detailed information is given under Current news.

Ficus religiosa, an Indian medicine with importance in Indian culture has been traditionally used for wide range of ailments of the central nervous system, endocrine system, gastrointestinal tract, reproductive system, respiratory system and infectious disorders. It was first introduced in homoeopathy in 1903 and first proved by Dr. S. C. Ghose. Recently Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) has published an elaborate proving. Curcuma longa is another Indian drug which has attracted the research interest globally. It was introduced in homoeopathy and published way back in 1977. CCRH had also proved this. We have come across another proving of Curcuma longa conducted at Durban University of Technology. Our “Provings and clinical verification” section covers both drugs with combined materia medica(s) of all reported provings.

This issue of Mother tincture info covers rare drugs Linum usitatissimum and Hepatica triloba. Their information with recent research reports are given.

Product watch covers 2 newly launched products, Lilium tigr. Pentarkan and Baptisia tinctoria 1x, and an existing product Kindival.

Research news reports two interesting studies. In the first study, individualised homoeopathic treatment (IHT), on clinical and quality of life (QoL) against placebo in patients suffering from advanced cancer and receiving conventional palliative care has shown statistically significant (compared to placebo) improvement. In the second study, Kindival has shown to be safe and effective in the treatment of sleep disorders in children. This was a prospective, multicenter, randomized, open-label, comparative, and controlled study.

Hope the issue will be informative.

Recent Advancements in Basic Homeopathic Research – A Report on Two Significant Publication

In a study conducted at the Experimental Farm of the State University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, researchers investigated the impact of homeopathic treatments on piglets during the nursery phase. The study aimed to determine whether homeopathic agents could reduce fighting behavior, improve growth performance, and affect hematological, metabolic, and oxidative variables. The study included 108 weaned piglets divided into four groups: a negative control group receiving only the basal diet, and three groups receiving different homeopathic treatments at varying dosages.
