Saraca indica

It is commonly known as Janosia ashoka. In Hindi it is known as Anganapriya. It is prepared from bark. The drug was introduced to homoeopathy by N. D. Ray of Kolkata, and reported by S. K. Banerjea, P. Banerjee, W. Boericke and others. The proving details are in the book “Homoeopathic Drug Provings, Volume 2”, published in 2007 by Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy. The reproving was done by CCRH in 2003-2005 at (i) Drug Proving Research Unit (H), Midnapore (W.B.), (ii) Drug Proving Research Unit (H), Ghaziabad (U.P.) and (iii) Regional Research Institute (H), New Delhi.  42 provers took part in the proving. 13 of them were controlled provers. A combined materia medica is given below which is compiled from different materia medica (s).

Vertigo

Vertigo in the morning with mild headache of left side.

Head

Severe bursting pain in whole head with high fever and dry cough and thirstlessness, worse in the evening, by lying down. Mild headache with vertigo on left side, worse after rising from the bed & continues whole day, better after sleep.

Throat

Dryness of throat with dry cough with pain in upper part of abdomen & disturbed sleep.

Stomach

Nausea with bodyache & fever.  Nauseating sensation with acidity & headache, better after sleep.  Increased thirst for cold water. Thirstlessness with severe bursting headache, high fever & dry cough.  No appetite but thirst for cold water.

Abdomen

Pain in abdomen with loose yellowish stools.  Pain in upper part of abdomen while coughing. Uneasy feeling of abdomen with soft stool with mucus.

Rectum

Frequent loose offensive watery stool, worse in the morning with gas formation & weakness and gripping pain in lower abdomen. Loose stools, worse early morning with pain in abdomen.  Soft stool with mucus, no appetite but thirst for cold water. Frequent offensive, watery, loose stool with gas formation & profound weakness followed by semisolid stool in evening.

Urinary

Yellow urine in daytime & pale in evening.  Burning during & after micturition with increased thirst for cold water.

Respiratory

Dry cough with thirstlessness & high fever.  Dry cough with pain in upper part of abdomen.  Cough, better after drinking water.

Extremities

Itching over the shaft of left tibia with rashes, burning sensation after scratching.  Itching in the heel with pain & redness. Pain in right knee joint, worse while bending the leg, better by rest, warm water fomentation. Cutting pain in right knee joint with slight swelling, worse morning, better by hot water fomentation.  Pain in calf muscle, knee joint, ankle joint of left leg, worse at night, movement, better by pressure.

Sleep

Disturbed sleep due to pain in left leg and dry cough.

Fever

Chilliness with thirstlessness followed by high fever and dry cough.  Fever with bodyache and nausea, worse in the morning.

Generalities

Profound weakness after frequent, watery, offensive, loose stool.
