Capsicum annuum

An attractive, upright shrub usually less than 1m tall, with small, white, pendent flowers and elongated, yellow, orange or red fruits (berries). It can be distinguished from other types of domesticated peppers by flowers that are solitary rather than in groups, and filaments (thread-like stalks supporting the anther) that are not purple.

Flowering season starts from July until September, and the seeds ripe from August to October. The flowers are hermaphrodite having both male and female organs.

Capsicum is native to the topical Americas, and is now cultivated throughout the topics, especially in Africa and India.

It contains capsaicin, carotenoids, flavonoids, volatile oil and steroidal saponins. Capsaicin stimulates blood circulation. It topically desensitizes nerve endings and acts as a local analgesic. Chilies are an excellent source of vitamins A, B, C and E and folic acid. Offier reported action include antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and carminative.

It affects the mucous membranes, producing a sensation of constriction. It is indicated in Inflammation of petrous bone. Burning pains and general chilliness are present. Suited to older people who have exhausted their vitality, especially by mental work, and poor living; blear-eyed appearance; who do not react. It has marked tendency to suppuration in every inflammatory process. It indicates in prostration and feeble digestion of alcoholics. Myalgia, aching and jerking of muscles also are covered by this drug. Externally it may soothe the stiffness and pain of rheumatism and arthritis. Capsaicin lowers body temperature by stimulating the cooling center of the hypothalamus in the brain. Capsaicin has been found to be of considerable benefit in relieving pain of diabetic neuropathy. Its beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system are reported. It reduces the likelihood of developing atherosclerosis by reducing blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It also reduces the platelet aggregation and increases fibrinolytic activity..Recommended dose: Φ in drop doses diluted in water.
